BETT 2022 Insights

Last week Naturebytes visited the BETT Show 2022 at the London Excel centre. These are some of our event highlights and insights into the EdTech industry.
What is BETT?
BETT is a global community and annual event for education technology. Over 1200 EdTech providers and 60,000+ visitors from various education and technology organisations come together to share and learn about the latest tools, trends and best practices for academia.
Our top highlights
Following BETT 2022 here’s a snapshot of our highlights – from the perspective of an EdTech & Environmental organisation:
Barefoot Computing – we visited Barefoot to speak about their Climate Champions programme and ended up modelling Play-doh elephants! Barefoot has a creative approach to learning, providing lessons to teach primary students about the key computing concepts. Their fun and challenging methods had all the adults in the room taking part and feeling like kids again.
BBC Education – when schools were forced to close during the pandemic the BBC stepped up and, in a matter of weeks, created BBC Lockdown Learning to broadcast and publish a huge amount of content to teach the nation at home.  We visited them to speak about collaborations and their new programme, ‘The Regenerators’, teaching young people to face the challenges of climate change.
Inclusion – “Most people would rather drop out than stand out”. There was a focus on pedagogy and solutions but this quote from a teacher during a Microsoft Education talk resonated with us. It relates to the ways in which we handle the different needs of individuals. This message is our key takeaway and provides a neat reminder for us, and the environmental education community more widely, to create opportunities for those with different learning needs to feel comfortable and able to meet their potential to excel as citizens.
